Bethany's National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)

In keeping with the mission of the school, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) program was started at Bethany High School, Koramangala, in 2010. NIOS is an "Open School" that caters to the needs of a heterogeneous group of learners up to pre-degree level with an alternate approach to education. Inclusivity and flexibility are the two main tenets this program is built on.

Bethany NIOS classroom

Bethany High School, Koramangala introduced the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) programme in 2010 to provide an alternative and flexible pathway for students to complete their education up to the pre-degree level.

Built on the principles of inclusivity and flexibility, the programme supports students with diverse learning needs as well as those pursuing interests in areas such as sports or the arts. NIOS students remain fully integrated into school life, following the same academic calendar and participating in school events such as Sports Day, literary festivals and cultural programmes.

A key advantage of NIOS is the flexibility it offers in examinations, allowing students to complete their Class X and XII exams over a period of two years. With a low student-teacher ratio, students benefit from personalised attention and a supportive learning environment.

Students can choose from a range of academic subjects such as Home Science, Economics, Business Studies, Social Studies, Mass Communication and Painting, along with vocational courses like Bakery and Confectionery, Desktop Publishing and Web Designing.

After graduation, many students pursue higher education in India and abroad in fields including Finance, Psychology, Aviation, Fine Arts, Design, Hospitality Management and Liberal Arts.

Admission and Selection Criteria

Students are admitted based on their eligibility. They need to be 14 years of age to enroll for the program. Once admitted, students are assessed in their academics four times a year. Reports of the assessments are given to the parents during the Open Houses.
