Bethany Physical Education (PE)
At Bethany High, we hold a profound belief that true development extends from the classroom to the field. The rich tapestry of our sports programme is a cornerstone of education here, as it hones not only the physical prowess of our students but also sharpens their coordination, boosts confidence, and cultivates leadership and teamwork. Sport at Bethany is a discipline that encourages self-regulation, focus, and tenacity.
Steering this dynamic department is Mr. Peter Soundraja, a man whose fervour for athletics is only matched by his ability to nurture the inner athlete in every student. With an adept eye for spotting and developing innate talent, Mr. Soundraja ensures that promising students receive the additional coaching they need to excel in their chosen sport.
A highlight in the Bethany sporting calendar is our eagerly anticipated Sports Day—an inclusive event that beckons participation from students, alumni, and peers from other schools. This day is not just about the thrill of competition; it’s a celebration of the indomitable sporting spirit and camaraderie that Bethany High champions.

Physical Education: A Foundation for Excellence
At Bethany, we take immense pride in our comprehensive Physical Education (PE) Department, comprised of 10 dedicated professionals, each holding a degree in Physical Education from renowned institutions. Our instructors are not just educators; they are specialists in their sports, including cricket, football, and more, bringing a wealth of expertise to our students.
Cultivating a Healthy Lifestyle
Understanding the intrinsic link between physical activity and wellbeing, we ensure that every student engages regularly with physical education. Our junior students enjoy two PE periods per week, while our seniors have one. These sessions are more than just exercise; they’re a foray into a variety of sports such as athletics, table tennis, throwball, cricket, football, and others, fostering both fitness and finesse in our young athletes.
Extending Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
Bethany goes beyond the curriculum by offering coaching sessions before and after school hours, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to refine their skills under the guidance of our seasoned PE staff. Our holiday camps feature coaching camps across various sports, which are also open to non-Bethany students, allowing the wider community to benefit from our department’s expertise.
Strategic Partnerships and Diverse Programmes
Our strategic partnership with Hoops Genesis provides top-tier basketball training, while an after-school karate program encourages discipline and self-defence. These collaborations are carefully curated to develop physical skills and promote holistic health.

Character Development Through Sports
We champion sports not only for physical fitness but as a vital tool for character building. Participating in sports teaches children to be resilient in defeat, gracious in victory, and cooperative team players. Joining tournaments nurtures independence, while organising sports events sharpens their leadership and organisational skills.
Annual Flagship Sports Events
Bethany is the proud host of three major annual sports events, each fostering school spirit and camaraderie:
- The Annual Road Run
- The Annual Athletic Sports Meet
- The Mignon Memorial Football Tournament
A Legacy of Champions
Our students have achieved accolades in various disciplines—cricket, football, badminton, shooting, and skating, to name a few. These triumphs include accolades from CISCE games and other interschool competitions, as well as in individual sporting events. We ensure that our rising sports stars receive comprehensive support, balancing academic and athletic excellence seamlessly.
Academic Integration
For those with a keen interest in the theoretical aspects of sport, PE is offered as an academic subject at both ICSE and ISC levels, providing a balanced perspective on the importance of sports science.
At Bethany, we believe in nurturing the champions of tomorrow by providing a robust physical education that stands on the pillars of health, sportsmanship, and lifelong learning.
