The Himachal Tour organized for the 10th Standard, batch of 2023-24 will be a memory to cherish. We consider it a privilege to be taken by our school, Bethany Institutions on this educational trip. The sights we saw, the memories we made and the friendships we made will be etched in our hearts forever.
Our first stop at Shimla was accompanied by breathtaking sights of the Kufri hills, where we enjoyed pony rides up the mountain. The visit to the local Lakkar Bazaar helped us sharpen our bargaining skills and gave us a flavour of the local market. We were also introduced to the extreme cold weather which really showed us what India had to offer.
Our next stop was at Manali where we went on a tiring yet wholesome trek up to the truly magnificent Jogini Falls which really tested our stamina. We also visited the mall road at Manali for some local shopping. We drove up the mountains to the Rohtang Pass, and later visited Solan Valley. So many of us experienced snow for the very first time, played snowball fights and learnt about the richness of India’s geography. We went through the Atal Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in the world, running from Manali to Leh. To actually drive through the pass and the tunnel was an exhilarating experience. We also saw the Beas river and other rivers in all their glory.
We then made our way to Amritsar. After a long bus journey, we got to see the Attari Wagah Border. Looking at our armed forces and border with Pakistan so closely, gave us a new sense of pride for our nation. The next morning, we all got dolled up and headed to the Golden Temple for a short visit. This truly gave us a glimpse of a different culture.
We then continued towards Chandigarh where we enjoyed some more shopping and street food.
Finally, we arrived at Delhi which was a drive to the airport through the city.
This trip helped a lot of us explore a new side of our country, the North. Hill stations most of us had not visited and scenes we hadn’t seen will always be a sweet memory in our hearts. It made our year much more memorable and fulfilling. The hotels we stayed in were quiet and cozy where we all chatted and eventually hit the hay after our jam-packed days.
The teachers and the tour operators were exceptional. They handled over a hundred of us efficiently, while making us comfortable at the same time. Their patience with all of us is truly creditable and noteworthy. They had a list of all the students celebrating their birthdays in the duration of the trip and made our days special even when we were miles away from home. We sang for everyone, cut cakes and truly enjoyed the birthdays.
This trip helped us become independent and enhanced our life skills. We were living out of a suitcase, managing ourselves and our belongings on our own. It gave us life experiences like nothing else could. We truly had a blast and the pictures and videos are a testament to that. We will always remember this trip as one of our best times together.
