“A child who reads will be an adult who thinks.” Reading skills provide the foundation for all learning particularly during school years. The Reading Programme was introduced in Bethany High in 2013. It is conducted from Grade 1 – 5. Children are exposed to varied genre of stories. Age appropriate books are carefully chosen by the team of Reading Programme facilitators. The Programme inputs include puppetry, book cover design, vocabulary enhancement, story mapping, story webbing, predictograms, glyphs, word searches, character descriptions, creative writing, book response web suggested readings for students.
In order to effectively implement the programme, the aims and objectives of the programme are highlighted at every parent – teacher meet. The excellent and positive feedback from parents has been very encouraging. The salient features and objectives of the programme are to create an interest in books and reading and to develop the habit of reading. Reading correctly with flexible, and appropriate speed and adequate understanding and raising creative and imaginative thinkers are the aims of the Programme.
