1st June 2015 – Monday – Staff Orientation – Day 1
The year began with the Staff Orientation. The theme for this year was “Making Rightful Choices”. This year Mrs.Lynette Nazareth, Program Director in Chestnut Global Partners conducted a session called “It takes a village to raise a child”. She helped us analyze all the factors and people who had an influence on a child’s life. The latter half of the day was filled with role plays with certain situations given to teams and an activity where each team had to build an ideal school with straws and explain it to the other teams.
2nd June 2015 – Tuesday – Staff Orientation – Day 2
Mr.Leo Fernandes, CEO of TalentEase spoke about “My Role as a teacher, today”. Teachers are unsung heroes, and the influence that they have on any child is of tremendous importance. The other themes that Mr.Leo touched upon were Being a teacher today, the changes, challenges and choices that the former topic entails.
10th June 2015 – Wednesday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 1
Mr.George Ebenezer and his team spoke to the students on the topic – “Your Depth determines your breadth”. He also made the students realize that cultivating strong roots are important in order to be prepared to face all seasons of life.
11th June 2015 – Thursday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 2
On the second day Mr. Ebenezer spoke about “Lifestyle of Authenticity”. He claims that the three marks of authenticity are:
– Nothing to hide
– Nothing to lose
– Nothing to prove
12th June 2015 and 13th June 2015 – Friday & Saturday – BSO Retreat
The torchbearers of this year visited Glorious Promised Land as part of the BSO Retreat. There they learnt how to be better leaders through activities, song and dance. Important messages like the below lines were imparted:
To be the salt, we do not have to be spectacular,
To be the salt, we do not have to be sensational,
To be the salt, we do not have to be successful,
We just have to affect our little corner of the world
Beyond Barriers, this time again, never failed to have a lasting impact on the young leaders.
15th June 2015 – Monday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 3
The topic for the third day was “Learning to live is great, but living to learn is better”. The words ‘vulnerability’ and ‘root fears’ and their consequences were discussed.
16th June 2015 – Tuesday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 4
The topic of the fourth day was, “The Key to success is influence, not Authority”.
16th June 2015 – Tuesday – Parent Orientation
Mr.Nobby Nazareth, CEO of Chestnut Global Partners addressed the parents about the challenges that teenagers face, and the influence of technology on them. He said that it is essential to change along with them in order to understand them better.
Mrs.Phyllis Farias, our education consultant spoke about Howard Gardiner’s multiple intelligences in a child and also about respecting the choice of one’s child.
17th June 2015 – Wednesday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 5
The topic talked about on the fifth day was “Give attention – listen and take”. It is important to listen to elders as one can learn from their experiences and expands one’s base to make decisions.
18th June 2015 – Thursday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 6
On the last day, the topic spoken about was “Boy-Girl Relationships”. The dangers of hasty decisions among girl boy relationships, LGBT community and social trends related to this were spoken about. This was followed by a Q&A session.
18th June 2015 – Thursday – Mind Masters
Mr.Ahmad from Mind Masters enthralled the students by reciting a series of numbers in a sequence. He said that memorizing could be easy for anyone if they overcame four obstacles. They are:
OBSTACLE 1: Not knowing how to use your brain
OBSTACLE 2: Bad Relationships
OBSTACLE 3: Negative Emotions
OBSTACLE 4: Food that one eats must be healthy
By throwing light on these obstacles he encouraged the students to take part in a day long seminar conducted by Mind Masters for students aspiring to be toppers and successful people in academics.
Hamza Shabbir Lehri of Std 8D attended the session and was able to memorize and recite 201 abstract random words that were given to him on the last day of Dr.Ahmad’s Super Kids Smart Teens Retreat. This was a world record in year 2005.
This seminar was organized by Dr.Ahmad Transformative Education in association with Dr.Ahmad’s Research & Result Systems.
19th June 2015 – Thursday – Special Assembly by Beyond Barriers – Day 7
The last day was a Q&A session where students asked questions about all the topics spoken about. The students bid the Beyond Barriers team adieu and anticipate their return next year for more lively assemblies with music, dance and songs.
26th June 2015 – Friday – Staff Informal Meet by Bethany Junior School 1,2 and 3
BJS 1,2 and 3 conducted a very enjoyable informal meet on the theme: “Guru-cool” celebrating years of good teachers. Our High School team won the second place in the game “Art Guru”.
On the 15th July 2015, Mrs.Lanette, Program Director at Chestnut Global Partners along with her colleague, Mrs.Deepa spoke to the students about Effective Communication. Their talk was rife with activities that were appreciated by all. The key points of discussion were:
